Where Now Consulting Raises Over £6,000 for Charity
Where Now Consulting would like to extend our gratitude to our corporate sponsors, Steelcase, Alpha Scotland and 2NDHND and everyone who individually donated to support our five day charity cycle for CHAS. As you know, we started this fundraiser for Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) as a result of the impact that Covid has had on fundraising for charities.
As a result of your donations, we were able to surpass our target of £2,500 to raise £6,224! CHAS needs to raise £5,650 to fund a day’s care in Rachel or Robin House, with £12,750 funding a day’s care across all of CHAS services: in their hospices, the family home, and hospitals across Scotland.
CHAS is one of Scotland’s largest children’s charities. For over twenty years CHAS has been offering a full family support service for babies, children, and young people with life-shortening conditions. This includes palliative care, family respite and support – through their hospices, homecare services and hospital presence.
Day 1 – The cycle started at Rachel House in Kinross, which can look after up to 8 children and their families at end of life or for respite care. We were given an overview of the history of CHAS and the inspiring work they do on a day-to-day basis before we set off. As a team we cycled through to Pitlochry, taking in the stunning scenery Scotland has to offer. It was a nice, easy start to the trip, with not much elevation aided by the lack of rain that was initially forecast for the event. However, as you can see, we were all very happy by the time we stopped for lunch.
Day 2 – After a hearty breakfast, we departed Pitlochry and started the brutal climb into Killin. A major positive for the day was that all of the significant hills were tackled before lunch and we were able to enjoy a leisurely team ride, with amazing views into Killin.
Day 3 – This was probably the toughest of the days. Not only did our navigation take us 7 miles in the wrong direction, but heavy rain also made it feel more like we were swimming than cycling! Not only was this our longest cycling day, but it was also the day with the most elevation, needless to say we were happy when we go to our hotel and were happily fed.
Day 4 – Our ride started at another CHAS hospice, Robin House in Balloch, where we were given an overview of the facilities and a quick walk around the gardens. Robin House is an incredible place, sitting in 6.2 acres of grounds that have been made into sensory gardens, play areas and wheelchair football pitches, all designed for the children and their families. Like Rachel house there are rooms for the children and families all supported by the nursing and medical staff and facilities, but it does not in any way feel like a hospice or for the end of life care. Events and the child psychology team add fun and laughter and support both to the children, the parents and extended family. This was another long day as we cycled from Balloch, through Glasgow and eventually ending in the quaint town of Dunblane.
Day 5 – A nice short day to end on, nothing too strenuous! We decided to set out a bit later than on previous days in order to enjoy our last day as a team as we began our last leg back to Rachel House in Kinross. What an incredible feeling it was to arrive back, knowing we’d hit our fundraising target and that we were able to provide a days care for a family at one of the hospices.
We used the last of our strength lifting our bikes in victory of completing the cycle.
Once again we’d like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who generously donated to our cause.
