UK rises to 8th on World Bank’s ‘Ease of Doing Business’ index

The UK has secured its place as one of the Top 10 countries in the world for doing business. According to the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business 2020 report, the UK rose from 9th place to 8th, highlighting the ease of starting a firm, protection of investment and insolvency resolutions as the reason for this.

Highland and Islands to receive £3m funding boost for ultrafast broadband

The Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has announced almost £3 million extra will be invested in Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP), after take-up rates across the region’s Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband (DSSB) network exceeded 60%.

North West companies could be losing out on Research and Development tax relief according to HMRC statistics

New HMRC statistics suggest that companies in the North West of England are missing out on tax relief, with £4.28 billion being claimed, with 6.4% of this being claimed in the North West. The Research and Development Tax Credit are an incentive introduced by the government to encourage companies to innovate.

Econ Engineering launches £1.3M Scottish venture

Econ Engineering, a Yorkshire based manufacturer of winter maintenance and repair vehicles, has launched a new £1.3 million venture to expand into Scotland. Econ Scotland will service gritters and other vehicles for customers across Scotland’s local authorities and private sector highways contractors.
