Inward migration ‘needed to boost Scotland’s population’
The Scottish government has demanded immigration powers as population growth slows, experiencing a surge in pensioners and a fall in the working age population. The National Records of Scotland (NRS) predict there will be 240,000 more pensioners by 2043, a 23.2% increase, while the working age population is set to fall by 7,000, increasing the risk of skills shortages and increased pressure on already strained public services.

Manchester City Centre population has increased 185% in 15 years
According to the 2019 State of the City Report from Manchester City Council, the population of Manchester is expected to increase to 600,000 in the next two years, highlighting the underlying need for more property developments in the city centre.

Edinburgh and South East Scotland councils consider regional growth framework
Following successful partnership working across Edinburgh and South East Scotland, councillors are considering proposals to establish a regional growth framework as part of the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal by 2020. The framework aims to help shape new regional and national policy and ‘set the strategic direction for inclusive and sustainable economic growth’.
