Universities ‘very worried’ about impact of no-deal Brexit

A survey of members of Universities UK revealed that more than three-quarters of universities in the UK are ‘very’ or ‘extremely’ worried about the negative impact of a no-deal Brexit on their institutions, with many feeling the effects in terms of student demand from EU countries, collaboration with overseas partners and retaining staff.

Urgent need for immigration powers

The Scottish Government has called for immigration policies to be devolved to Scotland after the UK Government revealed it would reverse its decision to scrap a post-study work visa for international students, allowing them to stay in the UK two years after they graduate. North West gets £18.7m share of Government funding to revitalise towns

The Government has revealed the location of 69 high streets that will benefit form £95 million to revitalise towns and cities. The North West will receive £18.7 million and will be divided among 14 towns to turn vacant buildings into creative spaces, offices, retail outlets and housing to support future commercial investment.

Financial services firms warned: adopt new technology fast or face ‘death spiral’

Chairman of Fintech Scotland, David Ferguson, has claimed businesses are not responding fast enough to the challenges posed by the digital revolution, claiming that there is a likelihood that some could get trapped in a ‘death spiral’.
