Scotland’s population continues to increase as life expectancy rise
New figures published by the National Records of Scotland show that life expectancy in Scotland has increased over the past thirty years but has stalled in recent years as drug death rates rise, increasing Scotland’s ageing population.
Businesses must help close digital skills gap to ‘future proof’ sector, trade body urges
Manchester Digital, a trade body for the digital and creative sectors, has claimed the Greater Manchester region’s digital and creative sectors will require at least 22,000 additional roles by 2035 in order to sustain itself and has called for ‘progressive, forward-thinking local businesses’ to close the skills gap.

National Robotarium to boost Edinburgh robotics sector
The UK Government has pledged £21 million funding towards the creation of a National Robotarium as part of the UK’s Data Driven Innovation programme which aims to bring Edinburgh to the forefront of the European data sector. The facility is to be based at Edinburgh’s Heriot Watt University with additional access to resources provided by Edinburgh University.

Greater Manchester has lost more than 1,000 shops since 2000
Greater Manchester has lost more than 1,000 shops and other retail units since the year 2000, with Trafford losing 310 retail units, 12.2% of its previous total, claims data published by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA).
