Scottish locations among UK build to rent hotspots

Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow have been identified as being among the top UK towns and cities in demand for private rented accommodation over the next decade, causing build to rent (BTR) developments to increase, according to new CBRE research. Aberdeen’s private rented sector is expected to increase by almost 5,000 households, meaning there will be almost 30,000 rented households in the city by 2028. With high projected rates of economic and employment growth, Edinburgh and Glasgow will remain in the top five largest rented sectors in the UK, with Edinburgh’s PRS expected to grow to 60,000 households and Glasgow to 70,000.

Manchester poised to launch five year climate change plan

Manchester Council has announced ambitious plans to halve its greenhouse gas emissions from its buildings, energy use and transport by 2025. A strategy to retrofit up to 350 council buildings and implement other measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the city is expected to be approved next week. The first phase of retrofitting is intended to save 1,800 tonnes of carbon emissions per year, with the second phase cutting a further 3,000 tonnes.

250 jobs to be created in Tayside biomedical cluster plan

A project to grow the Tay Cities Biomedical cluster of world-class life sciences companies has been announced and will generate in excess of £175 million for the local economy and strengthen Scotland’s reputation as a centre of excellence, according to new economic analysis. The Tay Cities Biomedical Cluster, led by the University of Dundee in partnership with NHS Tayside, has been earmarked for £25 million in initial funding from the Scottish Government through the Tay Cities Deal.

Plans unveiled for £350M Manchester arena

Plans to build the UK’s biggest indoor arena in Manchester have been unveiled, with the potential to support 4,500 jobs. American-based Oak View Group has been undertaking feasibility studies, in addition to extensive community consultations before submitting plans to the local council, however it is proposed that the £350 million building project will sit next to Manchester’s Etihad Stadium. OVG says that it would host around 120 events per year, with a particular focus on music, entertainment and sporting events.
